The Trick to the 5am Workout

beachbody coach raina kropp
What is the TRICK to the 5AM WORKOUT?  How do these people do it?  That's what I used to ask myself.  I just assumed they were cut from a different mold.  I thought "Well, that's nice.  That's inspiring.  That's not really me."  Well, TODAY, that is me.
Through my OWN FIT JOURNEY, I've finally come to a point where I wake up at 5am to fit in my workout EVEN WHEN I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT.  I recognize that ANY EXCUSE I come up with when my alarm goes off is a FLAT OUT LIE.
This is KEY. When the alarm goes off and the thoughts start playing through my head about sleep being more important or that I'll do it later, I literally just yell "LIES" in my head.  Haha, I know it sounds crazy but that's what has worked for me.  Honestly, any "legit" reason I come up with in the morning is just an excuse. It's not real. Once you OWN THAT, you'll realize there is no good excuse or reason not to get out of bed.
Just TURN OFF THE CHATTER.  The thoughts in your head usually aren't on the side of getting out from under the cozy covers so just SHUT THEM UP.  Roll out of bed and get your sweat on.   And you know what?  I HAVEN'T REGRETTED IT ONCE.
Simply make it a non-negotiable.  Lay out the workout clothes.  Plan out exactly what workout you are going to do.  Clear the workout space or put out the shoes and socks, if you are going to leave the house.  Make it easy on yourself.  Reduce the number of possible excuses you might have in the morning.
Looking for more TIPS AND TRICKS for 5AM WORKOUTS or eating healthy?  Looking for an accountability partner?  You're lookin' at her!  Get both by applying to be in one of my awesome CHALLENGE GROUPS.  Here's THE APPLICATION.

Sam the Cooking Guy Class Review - Vegetable Fajitas Recipe

Sam the Cooking Guy Recipes
As a present for my Mom's birthday, I purchased us two tickets to Sam the Cooking Guy's Class with the theme "Spring is in the Food."

It was Saturday, May 16, 2015
hosted at Pirch in the UTC Mall in San Diego.  It was tagged on his website as "A watch-learn-eat-drink and have fun, kind of class."

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect.  I thought it was actually a cooking class so my first thought when we arrived was, "O wow, we don't have to cook."  And we arrived early enough that my mom and I got some prime seats right at the counter, which meant Sam was cooking right in front of us, barely 5 feet away.  It was pretty intimate with only about 20 other people in the room.  Sam set the stage at the very beginning and told us it was our time to ask ANY QUESTIONS we wanted because he was there LIVE AND PERSONAL just for us.  He said, "You'll regret it if you don't ask it.  You'll be driving home or thinking about it later and saying, man I wish I had asked."  And you know what, he's right.  Alas, as a huge introvert though, I had no burning questions.  I do wish though that I had had the courage to ask something insightful.  I had 3 hours to do it, but alas there were enough others who asked fun and pertinent questions.  I was content to listen, and the evening overall was pretty spectacular even without a question from me.

I have to say I was super impressed.  And another random thought.  He's a lot thinner in person, very charming, pretty funny, and an AMAZING COOK!  I swear everything he made melted in my mouth with deliciousness AND he didn't even measure anything WHICH actually made me FEEL AWESOME!  Because as a newer cook in the kitchen, I don't measure anything.  So that made me feel better.  He said it frees you up to experiment when you don't measure, unless you're baking, then you do have to be exact.

Sam the Cooking Guy Recipe PicturesThe Menu was as follows:

Pomegranate Champagne
French Martini
Blackberry and Mint Margarita

Honey, Soy and Mustard Salmon
Kale, Roasted Corn and Bacon Salad
Bruschetta Pasta
Vegetable Fajitas
Lamb with Cous Cous

Toasted Pound Cake

Overall Rating:  A+++
If he owned a restaurant, I'd definitely be there.  I'm actually surprised he doesn't own a restaurant....yet.

He gave us a written copy of all the recipes, so we could really just focus on asking him questions about technique, what it was like to be on the Today show, his philosophy around olive oil, where he shops for his food, about the red green onions he bought (yes I said red), or the powdered hibiscus he had (which was amazing), why you shouldn't put knives in dishwashers, and how he would grab his wok if his house was burning down.  It was good conversation!  And his 4 assistants made sure our drinks were full and that the bites were plated quickly.  It was pretty flawless.

I'll share below one of my favorite recipes from the night.  I was pleasantly surprised by how much I LOVED it.  I actually made it for my husband tonight and HE LOVED IT!  He was shocked to love it so much, especially without any meat in it.  We didn't have green pepper or cumin.  We did use yogurt, and we added some medium taco sauce.  Sam encouraged us to follow his recipe loosely if we did not have everything available in the fridge.  He said that was the best part, improvising and just being inspired to cook.  So even if you don't have all the ingredients, don't be afraid to tackle this.  I hope you enjoy!

Vegetable Fajitas Recipe

vegetarian recipe San Diego HR MomIngredients:
1 green pepper, thinly sliced
1 red pepper, thinly sliced
1 zucchini, thinly sliced
1/2 large red onion, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon each cumin, garlic powder, oregano and cayenne
Sour cream or Greek yogurt
Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
2 Tablespoons olive oil

Heat olive oil in large skillet.
Add both peppers and saute for 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
Add onion and continue for another 5 minutes or so mixing well, then add zucchini.
Saute all for another couple of minutes, then add about 3 tablespoons water and cover pan with a lid for 2 minutes - you want everything soft.
Remove lid, add herbs and mix well.
Turn down heat, and warm your tortillas.
Place a little sour cream/greek yogurt, some vegetables and a little cheese in each cooked tortilla and roll up!

What is a Challenge Group?

Online accountability Facebook group weight loss

Have you been wondering what a Challenge Group is?  Or how about an Online Accountability Group?  Been invited to a Fun Facebook Group for Health and Fitness Motivation?  How about a 21 Day Challenge to get Bikini Ready?  All of these may be related to Beachbody and/or a Coach in some way.  Not saying it is a bad thing.  In fact, I think it's a great thing.  Let me explain,

Have you ever FAILED trying to lose weight?  Me too.  It's hard.  And not because the workout or the diet wasn't necessarily good enough, but because you probably lacked SUPPORT and MOTIVATION.  Think about how much having accountability and motivation does for you at work, school and accomplishing general tasks and goals. Yet you do not have that it for one of the HARDEST tasks you face….weight loss.

If you join the gym, and you don’t show up on Monday, is the gym calling you asking where you were and did you do well over the weekend? No. Actually, in some cases they are banking that you DON’T return. You might have a Trainer, but usually you see them once, maybe twice a week.  When you are dealing with stress and wanting to eat, do you have friends you can turn to who will help you stay strong?  Many do not.  Many people are surrounded by people that actually do the opposite.  Not out of malice but because they too struggle with weight loss.

My point is, having an advocate, or health coach that specifically has YOUR best interest in mind, provides you the BEST chance at success. Sure, at the end of the day, YOU are the one doing the work, regardless, but, I am there WITH you, which is why I love Challenge Groups and the Beachbody Coach opportunity.

I am a product of the process. First, you must TRUST the process. It DOES work, if YOU do. I am a Real Customer and Product of the Beachbody's products, and as a Coach, I want YOU to live the healthiest and happiest life that you can. Fitness and proper nutrition lay the foundation for everything else in your life.  I personally have a daily checklist of my nutrition, my workout, and some personal development.  I call it my checklist for feeling awesome.  The days when I can check off all three, I feel like I am on top of the world, and I want to share that feeling with others.

I have different types of support, if you are willing to invest in the right tools. I provide 1 to 1 coaching for my clients who are willing to put in the work. I match effort with effort.  The medium I most popularly do this through is called a Challenge Group.

Challenge groups are PRIVATE small groups that I run monthly on the Facebook “Group” platform. Sometimes these are called online accountability groups or 21 Day Challenges.  You get ME, as well as several other successful coaches on my team within a small group of people, very similar to you and your goals. I will help you choose a program BEST suited for you and your needs as well as discuss what meal plan is realistic for your lifestyle. You will get 1:1 accountability, exclusive motivation, recipes, small daily assignments, fitness tips, and support for 30 days! The benefit to the group is that you get a TON of positive feedback and support while you LEARN. There is always someone “there” to answer or hear your questions. You will both teach and learn from others and will be empowered in the process. There are some accountability guidelines to remain in the group, but as long as you continue to try, commit to the program tools and SHOW UP, you will ALWAYS have unconditional support.

I start ONE new challenge group a month. If you are interested in learning more about this platform, how “online accountability” works, how I can personally empower you to succeed and what it takes to qualify, then fill out my FREE CONSULTATION FORM form here:

Once received, I will email you to set up a time to speak live.  Or if LIVE freaks you out, I know my personal INTROVERT freaks out a little at the mention of the phone, I am also happy to text/email/chat or whatever works best for you.

Isn’t it time for you to have someone cheering for and supporting YOU?!

Shakeology is sold exclusively through Beachbody's Network of Coaches.  Because of this, Beachbody does not sell Shakeology directly on  However, due to the high volume of search on Amazon (which directs people to alternatives), Beachbody has set up an 'Amazon Product Ad' page that serves as an ad that gives an overview of Shakeology and directs people to for purchase.
